11 HOME TRENDS TO WATCH IN 2017
We’ve spied the hottest home trends set to make it big in 2017. You’ll be happy to know there’s something for everyone – from statement-making decorating ideas to smart and functional solutions. So, when it comes to your new-year/new-look ethos, seek your inspiration in this collection of home trends on the horizon.
Dreamy Day Beds
Spare rooms are doing away with formality and settling in to a relaxed vibe. One way they’re achieving this is with the inclusion of day beds. Day beds are flexible furnishing solutions that look great and maximise space and function – doubling as a sleeping sanctuary and lounging nook.
As much as we loved seeing the fiddle-leaf fig on every page of glossy magazines this year, it’s time to welcome a new green hit to homes. We’re spying indoor olive trees as the next big thing, adding texture and colour with their delicate, pale greens leaves.

Things are about to get persona, with customised decorative pieces hitting their stride in home trends next year. Think monogrammed initials on cushions, customised trays to sit on your coffee table, and even monogrammed your cutlery – so luxe!
Solid-Colour Rugs Layered Over Patterns
We’ve loved layering cowhide over sisal rugs for added warmth and texture, but keep your eyes peeled for a fresh twist on this trend with solid coloured rugs layered over patterned rugs. It’s a great way to hush a loud pattern if you’re new to busy floors, and create interest in lacklustre spaces.
Statement Large Scale Art
Gallery walls allowed us to showcase a myriad of favourite art finds, but 2017 is all about making a statement with one big love. Watch art fans go oversized with attention-grabbing pieces that take up entire walls.

Lilac, Blush, & Navy
Lilac, blush, and navy will add spark to interiors this coming year, riding the coattails of 2016’s soft rose and pastel blue. The colours beautifully complement one another, and will shine in velvet accessories such as tactile cushions.
The lights are out on floral patterns in 2017. You’ll see blooming motifs turn to the dark side for a moody vibe that makes big florals pop. Make a statement with wallpaper or keep it flexible with smaller updates such as bedlinen or art.
Dark Over Light
The trance with darker shades will continue from floral to wood and marble. Scandi’s blonde timbers will no longer claim top spot when it comes to side tables and consoles; while the white Carrara marble that’s dominated accessories of late will turn darker with grey backgrounds and veins.

Word is still out on Pantone’s Colour of the Year announcement for 2017, but its spring trend shades have all roads leading to green. Not the vibrant emerald colour trend we obsessed over in 2013, but more of a muted, earthy tone found in kale. It will be the go-to background shade for vibrant tones to star on.
Crystals and Semi-Precious Stones
Their rough and raw beauty caught our eye in interiors this year, with the trend set to continue. What started as small additions such as beautiful agate slice coasters, and small crystal clusters added to vignettes will be bigger and better. Think statement pieces such as quartz table lamps cropping up in homes.
Freedom of Expression
In an interview with Homes, Victoria Radshaw of London-based trend forecasting company Scarlet Opus said we can expect less control and a greater sense of freedom of expression when it comes to interior design: the mood has a slower pace and the overall style is more laidback with an appreciation of simple pleasures, artisanal skills and a feeling of solidity and certainty at a time of great uncertainty.
