AUGMENTED REALITY IS HERE
Catch, everyone’s favourite site, keeps evolving and has just launched augmented reality on some of its furniture items.
Rather than building a new app, Catch has managed to integrate augmented reality into some of its most popular selling items to allow consumers to design rooms in their homes by virtually test-driving furniture and allowing them to see what it looks like in their room. The technology is limited to top selling items for now and only iPhone users of Apple device (6S and above with IOS12).
The Home managing editor George Ierodiaconou said this is early days for the technology and whilst it is limited to just a few devices and platforms it is just a matter of time before it becomes mainstream.
Mr Ierodiaconou says within five years you will be able to take a photo of a room, clear out your old furniture on a screen and basically redecorate your entire room from your phone.
“Imagine dragging and dropping items on your screen and everything fits perfect because the phone works out the measurement of the room and only shows you furniture which will fit perfectly, this will be the native way in which we will shop for furniture and home wares, it truly is exciting,” he said.
The homewares and furniture market is worth around $7 billion per year in Australia. If you have an Apple device 6S and above with IOS12 Click Here to see what this sofa looks like in your room. But in the meantime, happy shopping, have fun with some of our top selling items.
