LETTERBOXES OF THE 21st CENTURY
The humble letterbox has remained largely untouched since its invention in the 1850’s, but that’s about to change. Five new designs by Northcote Pottery have been launched to accommodate the growing popularity of online shopping and modern home style trends.
“Online parcel delivery jumped by almost 20 per cent last year. That’s a lot of packages and the majority of them were sent in November and December, so it’s the perfect time to swap your letterbox to one that can hold all your Christmas and sales purchases,” Says Jacqueline Hughes of Northcote Pottery.
The new models feature enlarged doors, generous storage capacity and combination locks, allowing home owners to share their code with their postman or courier. This allows delivery of larger packages through the rear door, with some models accommodating up to 5kg satchels, without worrying about parcel theft or missed deliveries.
The Campbell combines glass reinforced concrete and metal to create an understated design that will seamlessly blend with a number of minimalist home designs. Home owners can also use their letterbox to reflect their surrounding areas, thanks to the two available colours Slate, a perfect match for inner-city locations, and Travertine, a light, creamy stone hue that will fit into coastal and rural aesthetics.
With its simple geometric shape and gradated monochrome colour palate, the Lewis is a chic and modern twist on letterbox design. It can also be painted to any desired colour allowing home owners to put a personal touch on their property’s aesthetic.
Alongside an enlarged door and combination lock, the Lewis offers a rain resistant mail slot.
Made to make an impact, the Elwood comprises stone and metal look components in mid-tone and dark greys, set out in a striking geometric configuration. In line with the rest of the new models, the Elwood includes an enlarged door and combination lock within its central pillar, while the main mail slot is offset creating a dramatic silhouette.
“Our new models offer an effective way to upgrade your street appeal and have been designed to be easily installed without assistance from a builder or handyman. They also add to our existing traditional letter-sized models, including the rustic Balinese style Vista and the classic look Plymouth,” adds Jacqueline.
