HOW TO NAIL SUMMER’S COLOUR TRENDS
According to the latest colour forecast from Dulux, it’s time to put cosy, cocooning neutrals to bed and embrace colourful eclecticism, visual delights and personal expression as we gear up for summer. Think pop-off-the-wall playful colours such as the pale mints and tropical pinks found in the aptly named Dulux palette “Escapade”.
Oozing ‘80s glamour (but in a totally modern way) and with references to luxury hotels in exotic destinations, this colour combo speaks to the design world’s ongoing love for retro style, and evokes an upbeat holiday feeling that’s quintessentially ‘summer’.
And while it may seem like a cocktail of jaunty colour, this trend is actually great news for neutral lovers or anyone a little bit colour-shy – because it all begins with crisp, white walls.
“Incorporating uplifting colour and prints in a white space can be transformative, lifting the soul and making you feel more dynamic and creative” says Dulux Colour Expert Andrea Lucena-Orr. “If you’re hesitant to dip into colour, fear not! Even small doses of these exuberant shades can have a huge impact”.
1. Try painting unexpected places, such as doors, the inside edge of a wall or door frame, along a staircase or add an element of surprise in a storage nook.
2. Go one step further by painting one or two smaller pieces of furniture in the same striking hue.
3. Add tonal accessories such as coloured glassware, bold artworks, patterned cushions and bed linen. For the rest of the walls choose a cool white like Dulux’s hugely popular LexiconR Quarter (pictured).
