SHAPE & SIMPLICITY
Straight lines, simplicity and shape anchor Marsha Golemac’s creative work. So it comes as no surprise to discover this timeless trifecta has permeated her home style, too. In her comfortably cool apartment, the Melbourne designer fuses a minimal design approach with clever storage for an uncompromisingly modern finish.
Despite being small in nature, the Collingwood apartment she shares with her fiancé Dan boasts big personality. Its modern look has been furnished with comfort and relaxation in mind, a feat the couple revels in at the end of the day. The living area is the largest room in the home, and they’ve created an inviting space that’s filled with the things they love by maximising this spacious attribute. ‘My favourite item is our record collection (or should I say Dan’s record collection), and my large wooden protractor and set square. I have a serious obsession with stationery,’ she confesses.
There are delicious designer pieces on her décor wish list, but for now Marsha revels in points of surprise that are heartfelt, thrifted or handmade by the couple or friends. ‘We love that most of the accessories around us have a story, they’re items that are meaningful and inexpensive,’ she says, adding ‘I want to have the freedom of jumping on my bed without knocking over a $2000 lamp!’
As an avid minimalist, Marsha’s sleek and simple style has taken somewhat of a back seat in this room due to a storage demand. ‘There’s more on display than I would like, but I try my best to achieve minimalism by keeping the general colour theme of the apartment neutral,’ she says. She manages to avoid creative chaos by utilising crates as storage, and kraft coloured boxes that house her ever-growing collection of tools and paper. ‘I have too much paper, and I can’t handle mess, so everything needs to be in a box,’ she explains.
What hasn’t taken a back seat is her always-creative work life! In fact, it’s full steam ahead, with Marsha working on an array of exciting photography shoots with brands that have been on her wish list for some time.
