VISUALISING YOUR HOME

When deciding on a home design it can be difficult to understand the plans from a 2D perspective. We aren’t all architects, and can’t quite fully get our heads around the spatial differences in room areas.

3D technology has been around for a long time now and builders are slowly starting to integrate 3D impressions into their presentation packages. Most will only provide a façade impression with the colours you have selected, but that doesn’t help with understanding the layout on the inside.

Companies like Hallbury Homes are now using drafting programs that build a full 3D model, inside and out. So you have the opportunity to view your home and take a virtual walk through before it’s built. Giving us visual people a much clearer understanding of how our home will be laid out and a much better understanding of the size of each room.

If you’re a novice propeller head and want to experiment with 3D technology to design your home, there are programs like SketchUp, which is free to use (pro licences’ are available at a cost). Programs like this are fairly basic to learn and understand to get you started.

On the other hand, there are builders such as Hallbury Homes that offer a custom design package. Where you pay a small fee (much, much cheaper than an architect) and they will design, quote and present you with a full 3D experience of you home. They can even export the walkthrough to video so you can show friends and family.

With this program the designer can add in materials such as bricks for the external and flooring on the internal. As you develop your design you can also pre-select a colour scheme and really being to fully visualise your home as a whole, rather than just lines on a page. Soon this will become the norm across the industry but for the moment ask if your builder includes a 3D walkthrough in their standard package.
