36-HOUR SEAFOOD MARATHON AT SYDNEY FISH MARKET
There’ll be no scaling back on seafood feasts this Christmas as Sydney Fish Market prepares to reel in more than 100,000 visitors to its annual 36-Hour Seafood Marathon. The summer seafood spectacular, now in its 24th year, continues to be a popular time for Sydney Fish Market as visitors from Sydney and beyond trawl the marketplace at all hours of the day and night, in search of the freshest and tastiest seafood for their Christmas festivities.
With extended trading hours in place, there is plenty of time to drop in and pick up delicacies for Christmas feasts. The marathon kicks off at 5:00am on Sunday, 23 December, with retailers open all the way through to 5:00pm on Monday, 24 December.
Sydney Fish Market general manager, Bryan Skepper, says, “The 36-Hour Seafood Marathon is a longstanding Christmas ritual, and continues to be our most popular calendar event of the year. Visitors will be able to snap up some of the best seafood around while enjoying the cheerful atmosphere of this event”.
Where the city meets the sea, Sydney Fish Market is unbeatable on location and offers a plethora of seafood options housed in the site’s six wet fish retailers, as well as restaurants and cafés. Shoppers can expect to find the largest range of fresh seafood sourced from all over Australia, including all the Christmas essentials such as prawns and oysters. The supply doesn’t just stop at seafood; visitors will be able to collect a Christmas turkey from the butcher; find a smorgasbord of cold meats, olives and cheeses from the deli; and get a tip or two on pairing wine and beer, from the bottle shop. There is also a bakery and greengrocer on-site.
Those seeking inspiration for their Christmas menu can get practising with a range of recipes developed by Sydney Seafood School which are available online here or in its cookbook, which is available for purchase onsite.
There will be a special appearance from Santa on Sunday, 23 December from 11:00am – 1:00pm and on Monday, 24 December from 10:00am – 12:00pm, delivering a burst of Christmas spirit to the 36-Hour
