MYANMAR’S BEST EATS TO KICK-OFF AT BISTRO MEKONG

A series of exceptionally delicious and unique Indochine tasting menus will be rolling out at Bistro Mekong Castlecrag’s Quadrangle Shopping Village over the next few months. The regional dinner series in Sydney will focus on a new cuisine along the Mekong River every month – kicking off with Myanmar (Nov-Feb), then Vietnam (Feb-Apr), Thailand (Apr-Jun), before wrapping up with Cambodia (Jun-Aug).

The series will be presented as a special tasting menu for a minimum of four people ($59pp). The first menu is inspired by the Myanmar region, with dish highlights including smoked catfish with roasted chili on chickpea tofu; king prawn tempura with caramelised onion, sesame coconut salad; slow cooked pork belly with pickled garlic, peanuts, young ginger and tamarind; and a sweet, banana pudding with coconut, dark sugar syrup and a soothing traditional hot tea.

Headed by Kensington Street’s resident star chef Tiw Rakarin, Bistro Mekong showcases the best of Indochine cuisine, but with a modern twist. The alfresco dining spot offers the perfect backdrop to any dinner as we move into the spring season, with its warm and inviting surrounds and romantic fairy lights woven into the leafy foliage. Bistro Mekong is a hidden gem, nestled right in the suburban heart of Sydney’s North Shore.

“We want to bring the Mekong River to our Sydneysiders,” said Chef Tiw. “The Indochine cuisine is bursting with potential with its flavourful range of dishes, and our brand-new regional dinner series is very reflective of that. With this, we hope to give diners a different experience each month, and introduce their senses to entirely new worlds.”

Bistro Mekong is the sister restaurant to Kensington Street’s popular Mekong restaurant. With a modern menu inspired by the countries along the Mekong River – Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam –Mekong is a travelling feast and favourite destination for powerful Asian flavours. Mekong Kensington Street was awarded Best Asian restaurant in the 2017, and a finalist in the 2018 Restaurant and Catering Awards.
